The key to ensuring your CV makes an impact when applying for an opportunity is tailoring it to ensure relevance for each opportunity. Make sure you highlight the skills you have that are relevant to the role and show your interest in the company, sector and opportunity.
If you are looking to progress in or make a move into Equity Research, there are 5 key aspects to include in your CV or develop to add to your CV to help you secure an interview:
- Detail your academic achievements – employers in this sector are very focussed on recruiting individuals with consistently strong academic achievements. They will want to see your GCSE, A level, degree and any professional qualifications results and timeframes.
- Mention any research reports you have compiled on sectors or specific companies. Ensure you highlight markets that the firm focusses on. You can expand on this at interview.
- Provide examples of how you keep up to date and fuel your interest in the markets.
- Consider adding to your interest’s section of your CV details of any investment portfolio you have, this can be a virtual one.
- Show how you have used and developed your financial modelling skills. What models have you worked with? Particularly highlight DCF and LBO models. Have you developed them from scratch? Have you done any courses to develop your skills?
