Tailoring your CV to each application will help you secure an interview. All firms are different, they offer different cultures, work environments, clients and job profiles. Highlighting the skills and experience you have that matches what they are looking for will ensure your CV stands out in a short list.

If you are looking to progress in or make a move into Corporate Broking, there are 5 key aspects to include in your CV or develop to add to your CV to help you secure an interview:

  • Demonstrate an interest in the markets. As part of your interests and in your profile, you can mention how you keep up with the markets and particular sectors or companies you follow. Be prepared to expand on your interest areas at interview.
  • Add details of your own portfolio of equities. Depending on your personal financial situation this can be varied and could be a virtual portfolio. A good virtual portfolio to build is the London Stock Exchange
  • Include examples of relationship management as this is a key skill to develop for your future career in corporate broking. These skills can be highlighted using past work experience but also examples from your personal life.
  • Highlight any team sports you play.
  • Detail any society or club memberships you have. Ensure these are relevant, for example a good membership to mention is being a member of the Investment Society at your University.
