The Guardian reported today that UK GDP has fallen 0.7% and with the double-dip recession showing no sign of easing, is it worth ‘thinking outside the box’ and investigating other career opportunities?

It’s being reported as the longest double-dip recession on record the number of jobs have fallen 5.5% in the last quarter (survey conducted by Totaljobs.com), compared to the same period last year. Perhaps it’s time to find out if your skill set could be transferrable to another sector and open up more opportunities?

Recently, Alan Mitchell advised a London banker on a potential move to an Agricultural Consultancy role in Edinburgh. It’s surprising the number of candidates who narrow down their options, thinking their skill set isn’t transferrable, when actually their skills are very sought after in other areas.

Its also worthwhile keeping an eye on social media sites, i.e. LinkedIn, as potential employers go social too!
